“People We Meet on Vacation” Trailer: Tom Blyth and Emily Bader Bring Emily Henry Book to Life in First Footage

Netflix recently dropped the first teaser trailer for the upcoming movie, “People We Meet on Vacation,” based on Emily Henry’s popular 2021 novel. The film stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth in the lead roles and is set to hit Netflix screens on January 9th. Bader, known for her role in “My Lady Jane,” and Blyth, from “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” play best friends Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsson in this romantic drama.

“People We Meet on Vacation” follows the journey of Poppy, a travel writer for a fictional New York City magazine, and Alex, an English teacher. Despite their contrasting personalities, the two form a strong bond during college that sees them embarking on annual vacations together over a decade. The teaser trailer shows a chance encounter at the airport, where Poppy is caught off guard by Alex’s unexpected presence after claiming her luggage arrived first, which was unusual for her.

The storyline takes a twist when, after years of a strained friendship, Poppy decides to invite Alex on one last vacation in a bid to reignite their bond and perhaps discover something more. The logline teases, “Free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together.” The trailer hints at the possibility of their friendship evolving into a romantic relationship, challenging the equilibrium they’ve maintained for years.

In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, star Emily Bader described the film as a “simple slice-of-life story about two people learning to love themselves, and in turn, each other.” The movie offers a fresh perspective on the dynamics of friendship and romance, inviting audiences to delve into the complexities of human connections. Director Brett Haley promises a cinematic experience that immerses viewers in the characters’ emotional journey, making them feel like they’ve travelled alongside Poppy and Alex.

The adaptation of Emily Henry’s novel not only brings the beloved characters to life but also marks a significant milestone for the author, propelling her into the spotlight as a leading figure in modern romance literature. With four of her other works also in line for screen adaptations, Henry’s storytelling resonates with a wide audience, capturing the essence of love, friendship, and self-discovery. The movie boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon, alongside Bader and Blyth.

“People We Meet on Vacation” is not just a love story; it’s a narrative that delves into the intricacies of relationships and the transformative power of human connections. As viewers anticipate the release of this heartfelt tale on Netflix, the trailer offers a glimpse into a world where friendship blurs the lines of romance, paving the way for self-reflection and emotional growth. Mark your calendars for January 9th, as Poppy and Alex’s journey unfolds, promising a cinematic experience that will linger in the hearts of audiences long after the credits roll.
